This photograph appears on the cover of Sketches of South Georgia Folklife, a rare and obscure little booklet published by the Library of Congress in 1977, at the suggestion of Ms. Syd Blackmarr. Syd has been one of the strongest advocates of the arts in South Georgia for most of her adult life, and the publication of this work in 1977 bears strong witness to her commitment to South Georgia folklife. I will post a few more images from this work as time permits. As to High Hill Church, it is located in the northern part of Turner County, between Arabi and Rebecca, and is right in the middle of one of the most fertile agricultural regions in the state.
