Shotgun houses earned their name from their unique architectural style. It is said that one could fire a shotgun through the front door and its pellets would cleanly exit the back. They generally consist of three to five consecutively joined rooms, with no hallways, and, while there are a number of different styles of these dwellings, the most common in South Georgia are very crude.
